Student-athletes qualified for NCAA track & field championship
Eleven student-athletes qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala., from March 13 through March 14, 2015. The championship meet begins at 9 a.m. both days.
Eight Falcons qualified for the men’s events. They are JaQuan Demiel (Sr./Suffolk, VA), Burkheart Ellis Jr. (Jr./Raleigh, NC), Khari Herbert (So./Coral Springs, FL), Kevaughn Hewitt (Sr./Miramar, FL), Immanuel Hutchinson (Jr./San Jacinto, CA), Daniel Jamieson (Jr./Windsor, CT), Omar Johnson (Jr./Jamaica) and David Shaw (Sr./Red Springs, NC).
Shaw is the top-ranked triple jumper in Division II. Jamieson ranks fourth in the 200 meter dash and Johnson ranks fifth in the 400 meter dash. Herbert ranks ninth in the 400 meter dash and the 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Herbert, Ellis Jr., Hewitt and Johnson ranks second.
Three Lady Falcons qualified for the women’s events. They are Shakinah Brooks (So./Raleigh, NC), Shamia Lassiter (Jr./Chesapeake, VA) and Ornella Livingston (Jr./Christiana, Jamaica).
Brooks is the fourth-ranked long jumper in Division II. Livingston ranks sixth in the 60 meter dash and Lassiter ranks 10th in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Falcons have won 35 NCAA Division II national men’s and women’s titles under legendary Head Coach George Williams, including the 2013 and 2014 men’s indoor and outdoor crowns.
