Falcons earn CIAA Highest Team GPA Award in Baseball
Saint Augustine’s University won the CIAA Baseball Highest Team Grade Point Average (GPA) Award for the second straight year during the CIAA Softball and Baseball Awards Banquet at the MLK Building on the Saint Augustine’s University campus Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
The Falcons posted a league-high 3.17 cumulative GPA among the conference’s baseball teams. Head Coach Charles Whitaker and scholar-athletes Tyson McDonald (Jr./Magee, MS) and Brandon Pearson (Fr./Riverdale, GA) received the plaque when Saint Augustine’s University was announced as the highest GPA winner. This is the third time in six years that the Falcons have captured the baseball academic honor.
Pearson also was honored for winning the CIAA Baseball Rookie of the Year award in addition to being an All-CIAA Rookie pick. He was one of six Falcons who were recognized at the banquet. Jason Baytop (Jr./Manchester, MD) and Bryan Rivera (Sr./Cidra, Puerto Rico) received trophies for being selected to the All-CIAA First Team. Darryl Washington-Hardy (Sr./River Grove, IL) and Carey Cheek (Jr./Baltimore, MD) were highlighted for making the All-CIAA Second Team, and Darrell Langston (Fr./Chicago, IL) was recognized for making the All-CIAA Rookie Team.
