Volleyball team defeats Virginia State
Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) tallied 14 kills as Saint Augustine’s University defeated Virginia State University in four sets for its first women’s volleyball victory of the season in the CIAA Round-Up I at the Helms Center on the Chowan University campus Saturday, September 13, 2014.
Mikayla Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC) added eight kills and Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US VI) finished with 17 assists for the Lady Falcons, who won 26-24, 25-16, 24-26, 25-18. Marley Parker (Fr./Langley, British Columbia) had 20 digs in addition to six kills and Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) registered 19 digs. Danyelle Noland (Fr./Nashville, NC) added six kills.
Porter led the Lady Falcons with seven kills in a three-set loss to Chowan earlier in the day. The final score was 11-25, 15-25, 17-25. Thomas collected 14 assists and Mahon had 15 digs for the Lady Falcons, who are 1-1 in the CIAA.
The Lady Falcons host Johnson C. Smith University in their home opener at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, Sept. 18. The match begins at 6 p.m.
