Real Talk: SAU Male Mentoring Program
Under the direction of Dr. Paul Norman, dean of first year experience, the University has established a Male Mentoring Program. The mission of the program is to create an environment through mentorship that transforms Saint Augustine’s University male scholars into intellectually-focused global leaders.
According to Dr. Norman, in April of 2014, President Everett B. Ward met with SAU’s male students for suggestions on how to improve the lives of the students at the University. With the ideas and cooperation of faculty and staff, the male mentoring program was established. The first meeting was held on August 18 where 20 male faculty and staff members expressed interest in the initiative.
Still in its early stages, Dr. Norman expressed the importance of the mentoring program for the sons of Saint Augustine’s University.
“The program is important because it will increase the retention and graduation rate among our male students and prepare them for leadership and success,” Norman said.
The next meeting is scheduled for August 27 at 11 a.m. in the Prezell R. Robinson Library. For more information about the Male Mentoring Program, contact Dr. Norman at 919.516.4353.
