Anthony Dixon competes in televised quiz show
Anthony Dixon, a freshman mass communications major, traveled to Atlanta November 19 to 21 to represent Saint Augustine’s University in the Black College Quiz (BCQ) Tournament sponsored by State Farm.
The Black College Quiz Show series features highly competitive students from more than 50 HBCU schools around the country. The show tests the students’ knowledge of African-American history and airs on select cable channels in February in observance of Black History Month.
Dixon was chosen at the recommendation of last year’s competitor, Antwoine Coleman. Both young men were prepared and coached by Ms. Brandi Geary, the coach of SAU’s Honda College All-Star Challenge team. While the results of the competition cannot be disclosed until the show airs, Dixon did well and represented the best of Saint Augustine’s University scholars.
“Ms. Geary and Mr. Dixon worked very hard to prepare for the competition,” said Ms. Valerie Evans, director of the Honors College. “We couldn’t have asked for a better team to represent the University in Atlanta.”
Coach Geary had this to say about Anthony: “Preparing Mr. Dixon for the BCQ competition was a great experience. The Academic Bowl team assisted me in preparing Anthony for the competition. Anthony is a great scholar and we look forward to working with him again.”
The Black College Quiz Show has been a weekly broadcast since 2007 and has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships.
