Gordon Health Center promotes living healthy
In support of living and having a healthy lifestyle, the staff of the Gordon Health Center held two health awareness events for the Saint Augustine’s University campus community.
On February 4, the Carolinas CARE Partnership’s Mobile Testing Unit was on campus providing students with various healthy information as well as testing students for HIV/AIDS.
In the Prezell R. Robinson Library on February 6, the Center hosted a program in observance of National Wear Red Day, which was launched by the American Heart Association to bring awareness that each year 1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke. Faculty, staff and students (adorned in their red attire) received valuable information on living healthier.
The guest physician for the program was Dr. Glenndale Moore, who specializes in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine. He answered questions from the audience regarding heart disease and how to live a healthier lifestyle.
Dr. Moore graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill in 1979. He is affiliated with Duke Raleigh Hospital, the WakeMed Raleigh Campus and owns a private practice in Raleigh.
According to the staff at the Gordon Health Center, these events were scheduled to bring a sense of health awareness on the campus for students and as well as the employees of Saint Augustine’s University.
“One’s health is so instrumental in his or her daily activities,” said Gordon Health Center officials. “If students and staff are made aware of certain illnesses, students will be more productive with their studying and staff will be more productive with their daily job tasks.”
